OXLINK Capital Private Limited is set to host the second edition of the Mobile Money and Digital Payments Conference and Awards next week. The year’s conference will run under the theme “Enhancing Risk Management in the Mobile Money and Branchless Banking Ecosystem.” In statement, Oxlink Capital said this year’s conference will explore progress made to date on interoperability, the role of the near field communication in championing new innovation, the value of agent banking and mobile money in enhancing financial inclusion.

The conference, which will be held on July 28, will also deliberate on the role of mobile money in enhancing financial inclusion and the role of mobile money and digital payments in ameliorating the ongoing cash crunch among other pertinent issues.

“While the 2015 Edition of the Conference registered 287 delegates, the 2016 edition is targeting over 300 delegates to engage in frank progressive debates on this important industry that has seen 88 percent of the national payments transaction volumes in 2015 being done via mobile money platforms,” said Oxlink Capital.

The inaugural conference last year gathered over 200 industry leaders and regulators to discuss progress made over the years in developing the ICT sector in Zimbabwe.

Notable speakers at the conference include ICT, Postal and Courier Services Minister Supa Mandiwanzira, NetOne chief operating officer Brian Mutandiro, Barclays Zimbabwe managing director George Guvamatanga, Steward Bank chief executive Dr Lance Mambondiani and POSB chief executive Andrew Kandlela among others.

Mobile telecommunication companies have since dollarisation ventured into the financial services sector in pursuit of growth. With little prospects for growth in voice and SMS services, value added services that leverage on existing Global System for Mobile infrastructure have become the way to go.
