Phew! What a hectic holiday it was and yours truly hopes that you had a splendid time over the long Easter and Independence celebrations. However, hopes for an accident free holiday is still not achievable.
But this year, we had a double treat as the 34th Independence fell on a Good Friday, what a rarity and the religious among us have already said it was a sign of great things to come for Zimbabweans.

Without further ado, viewers have been treated to continuous drama during the Oscar Pistorius trial.
However, we are told that the “The Oscar Pistorius Trial: A Carte Blanche Channel” will take a break for two weeks – from Monday, 21 April to Monday, May 5. The pop-up channel (DStv channel 199) continued with repeats and an omnibus of the past week’s court proceedings throughout the Easter weekend and then stopped on Monday, 21 April at 22:00 CAT, to resume again on Monday, 5 May at 07:00 CAT.

South African Paralympian Oscar Pistorius has been on trial since March 3, after being charged with the murder of his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day of 2013.

The trial is being heard at the High Court in Pretoria, South Africa.
The Oscar Pistorius Trial Channel, hosted from a studio in Johannesburg, South Africa, has regular live crossings to the courtroom, broadcasting audio of the full trial and televising parts of the trial.

The trial will continue to bring viewers daytime and night time programming until the end of the trial, including live in-studio and court broadcasts from 07:00 to 22:00 CAT daily.

All the day’s content and court proceedings are repeated from 22:00 until 07:00 the following morning when the channel goes live from the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria and the Johannesburg studio.

That said,  DStv is focusing on women and kids!, a refreshing shift from the men and soccer  so to speak.
We are told that there’s never been a better time for women and young people in Zimbabwe to enjoy the many opportunities for education, information and entertainment provided by DStv.

After years of development, the various DStv bouquets now offer an unprecedented variety of channels, programming and focus points that are of special appeal to women and young people.

Liz Dziva, publicity and public relations manager of MultiChoice Zimbabwe, said the DStv thrust into the women’s and young people’s audience segments was bigger and better than ever before and was set to continuously expand and diversify.

“A wide range of the DStv platform is now geared to the needs of these segments and this will continue to grow in months and years ahead, complementing the wide range of opportunity available for the male audience.

It’s a win-win for everyone, ensuring that all sections of the viewing public gain satisfaction and enjoyment from their DStv experience.”
Channels that are aimed primarily at women, range from  E! Entertainment and The Style Network, to TLC, Telemundo, Africa Magic, The Food Network and Fashion TV, as well as large sections of other channels in the various genres of on-screen action.

Women of the 21st century have a wide range of interests, from the more serious topics to the lighter content, and DStv now covers all this with programming that fits the bill.

The youngest viewers have a rich selection of channels and programming, including Disney, Disney XD, Disney Junior, Jim Jam,
Nickelodeon, BBC Cbeebies, Cartoon Network, Boomerang, ED and Mindset Learn ( Educational). Teens are catered for in almost all the channels, ranging from music to movies and from sport to social information.

“ DStv caters for all market segments, and women and young viewers have their fair share of the platform,” said Ms Dziva.
“Watch out for news about even bigger things as the year progresses!”

Until next week, remember this is television and its real.
