Gospel songstress Olinda Marowa and husband-cum-manager Michael Ziwenga have ventured into business through opening the first HD movie cinema in Gweru where they are now based.
The cinema that has been on a trial run the past two weeks will be officially launched this weekend at the Midlands Hotel.
“This initiative came upon the realisation that there was a lack of this kind of entertainment in the city of Gweru.

The response that we have had so far is amazing as we pride ourselves in being abreast with international standards. We will show the lasted block busters from around the world,” Ziwenga said.

So far, the movie house has two cinemas that are complete with HD viewing. While the couple spoke on improvements they said they were aiming at expansion.

“At the moment, the movie house is open during the weekends. As we grow, we will certainly add more cinemas as we have plans to upgrade to 3D next month. Our target is to have more of these movie houses in small towns that are being left out in terms of this kind of development,” he said.

He highlighted that the movie business was essential in the lives of people as it encouraged a kind of entertainment that was different from the pub and night club lifestyles.

Turning to the couple’s music, Ziwenga who has managed Kudzi Nyakudya, Blessing Shumba and Bethan Pasinawako, said they were enjoying a purple patch.

Ziwenga and Olinda are both pastors at Spirit Embassy church in Gweru. They credit their success to God.
“God is being good to us. Our ministry has grown to be amongst the biggest in Gweru. Olinda is a singer and I a preacher so we have been able to complement each other in business, music, family life and in pastoral duties,” he said.

True to Ziwenga’s notion the good times are rolling as Olinda has received her first ever award nominations for her latest album “Jevoha Tshuvha”. She was nominated for Zimbabwe Music Awards.

“Christians and fellow musicians should learn from us and not be afraid to venture into business in order to earn a living in a clean manner. God blesses the hand that works and if one wants to sell tomatoes, clothes or provide services they need to research intensively,” he said.
In the past, the couple has opened guest houses in Greendale and Glen Lorne while co-owning a restaurant in Westgate.
