Nurses urged to write books

Nurses in Africa need to write their own textbooks that reflect the disease patterns and environment of the continent, Vice Chancellor of the Women’s University in Africa Professor Hope Sadza has said.
Opening the five-day 11th Scientific Conference and the 5th Quadrennial meeting of the East, Central and Southern Africa College of Nursing (ECSACON) in Harare on Monday this week, Prof Sadza said nurses and midwives should publish books relevant to the region.
Prof Sadza said publications by local nurses and midwives would wean the health sector from relying on publications that were written to suit disease patterns and environments of other foreign countries.
The ECSACON conference was being held under the theme: “Increasing access to quality nursing and midwifery care: Nurses and Midwives taking a leading role.”
The conference drew participants from 14 African countries.
