MUSA NTONGA, the woman who was at the helm of Hwahwa in the Premiership last year, has taken the Zifa Central Region by storm after announcing she will be standing in the elections to lead football in the Midlands.

The ZIFA post became vacant after former chairman Elton Kamambo was elected one of the association’s board members.

The 40-year-old Ntonga is likely to battle it out with Brian Chishanga and Stanley Chapeta.

Former regional chairman Patrick Hokonyam, is yet to make up his mind about whether to contest in the polls.

But Ntonga was bubbling with confidence yesterday.

“I will be collecting my nomination papers tomorrow and I can confirm that I will be standing for the elections. I am ready for the challenge,” she said.

“My mission is to prove these people wrong and inspire other women into football administration. Just watch this space.

“I still want to go the extra mile and get to the higher levels of football administration. I want to be a leader at provincial level. Who said a woman cannot be a Zifa chairperson? Women can do it too and I intend to prove it on the 6th of March.

“I have seen the challenges that have haunted the Central Region, there is no marketing and the structures lack a feminist touch.

“The Northern Region under Manyengavana (Willard) has achieved a lot and, if elected, I would want to follow suit. Our players must get prizes at the end of the season just like in the Northern Region where the soccer star drives home a car, also players must be insured in case of injury and death.

“The region must help teams in acquiring football kits for home and away games, balls and it must be run professionally just like what we see in the PSL.

“We must get a number of sponsors and try to get as publicity as much as we can and try to have our games screened on national television as a way of marketing our players

‘Football is a big business and we need the corporate world and partners to provide sponsorship packages to the region.”
