NSSA donates to Bumhudzo

nssaTHE National Social Security Authority management has mobilised funds for distribution to various charity organisations under the corporate social responsibility programme. NSSA management have been running the social responsibility programme for the past three years and so far over 15 institutions throughout the country have benefited from the programme.

On Tuesday, NSSA management handed over an assortment of items valued at $10 000 to two charity organisations.
Part of the proceeds were handed over to Bumhudzo Old People’s Home run by the Salvation Army Church in Chitungwiza by NSSA’s corporate services director Mr Tendai Mafunda on Tuesday.

Mr Mafunda was representing NSSA general manager Mr James Matiza.

The donations are part of the authority’s celebrations to mark 20 years of providing social security to all working Zimbabweans through one of its schemes, the National Pensions Scheme.

“The NSSA management team deemed it fit to come and celebrate with the elderly at this home as we acknowledge your contribution to the growth of this scheme both directly and indirectly,” said Mr Mafunda.

“As a team from NSSA, we identify with the elderly at this centre because they represent the majority of the stakeholders that we deal with on a daily basis,” he said.
The National Pension Scheme pays out different pension benefits which include retirement pension/grant, survivors pension/grant and children’s allowance as well as a funeral grant.
Introduced in 1994, the Pension and Other Benefits Scheme is based on a 50 /50 contribution from the employers and employees.

The workers are entitled to a number of benefits after contributions for a minimum set period and having met the qualifying condition of each of the benefits.
It provides an important cushion for Zimbabwean citizens during invalidity, retirement or death of a breadwinner who was a member of the scheme.
It is the noble duty of the employers and employees to ensure that contributions are paid to NSSA.

The donations included deep freezers and an assortment of grocery items and was done by the National Pension Scheme to mark its attainment of 20 years.
“I am glad to say that since our corporate social responsibility initiatives were started about three years ago, over fifteen institutions throughout the country have benefited and I urge other corporates to follow suit and impact the communities around them,” said Mr Mafunda.– New Ziana
