Norton residents are unhappy with the MDC-T- run municipality over poor service delivery and have obtained police clearance to stage a peaceful demonstration against the local authority. The protest is set for tomorrow. In an interview yesterday, Norton legislator Mr Temba Mliswa confirmed the police have cleared the residents, represented by the Norton Residents Development Trust (NRDT), to stage a peaceful demonstration in the dormitory town.

The legislator also fired a salvo at MDC-T saying the opposition party was corrupt to the core.

He said the peaceful demonstration was justified as it sought to address the poor service delivery in Norton and hold management accountable.

“The people will always have the power and they deserve to be heard and supported. It is within their rights,” said Mr Mliswa.

“It exposes corruption by the so-called opposition MDC before they are even in power and clearly there is no political will on their part to address it. So why should they be in power?”

NRDT secretary Mr Laston Tachiona said the demonstrations would also be focused on the land barons and their failure to register residential stands with the Surveyor-General.

The residents, said Mr Tachiona, want the council to explain why it was failing to collect rates in excess of $5 million from property developers in the area.

Last week Mr Mliswa blasted MDC-T leader Mr Morgan Tsvangirai for allegedly suspending two of his party councilors at Norton council.

In a statement, Mr Mliswa said: “In a shocking turn of events, MDC-T has suspended councillors E. Takawira (Ward 11): chairperson of the audit committee and S. Nerutanga (Ward 1): chairperson of the housing committee.”

How ironic for Zanu PF police to permit Norton Residents to demonstrate against an MDC-run Norton council when they refuse to permit Zimbabweans to demonstrate aging Mugabe and Grace!

Your memory is too short dude. We had mayhem when opposition parties were allowed to demonstrate. No wonder the anti Zanu-PF and anti Mugabe brigade is no longer making any impact in our politics. It’s sad we still have remnants of anti government dreamers that dream about some hope of elevating stooges to positions of power. Just give up. Your leaders sold you a dummy!

In the same paragraph he condemns Tsvangirai for suspending the supposedly corrupt Councillors which is which ..By the way I am unhappy with the way this government is running the economy how do get a police clearance for a solo demo

Councillors are MDC but management of the council is Zanu pf and they report straight to the minister. MDC has tried it in Harare to employe professionals but are frustrated by the minister, e.g Mushore because he is not a Zanu Pf person

      What is he?

        a proffessional

        • Masaisai

Haugoni kana kunyora kuti “professional”. Chii chaunganyanya kuziva? Mushore was more Manyenyeni’s friend than a professional. You can ask why most MDC-T councillors agreed with the minister over his suspension. Harare City council is corrupt to the core.

I agree. The opposition supporters are simply STUPID. Tsvangirayi went into GNU, got a $3 million house, a car and a pension. His ministers all got nice benefits. And we still get people howling every day about ZANU-PF. Sort your opposition politics. It’s the only way you may breed relevance.
