IN-FORM Ngezi Platinum stretched their lead in the Northern Region Division One Soccer League race to four points when they beat Herentals 2-1 at the National Sports Stadium over the weekend.

The platinum boys got their goals from Innocent Sokosi, through a penalty, and Evans Katema in the second half.

Herentals scored through Edgar Mhungu.

Ngezi Platinum have won seven of their nine matches so far.

Coach Clifton Kadurira saluted his charges.

“As I have said before, if you go on top every team you meet wants to beat you so on our side we have to keep on working extra hard to remain in pole position.

“And I give credit to the guys who are working extra hard for us to get results.

“Our goal is just to keep working extra hard and collect maximum points home and away but with football anything can happen.

“Sometimes you want to go on top but you find yourselves going down but our aim is to get as many points as we can,” said Kadurira.

Herentals coach, Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva, said their biggest weakness was their failure to score.

Ngezi are now four points ahead of second-placed Black Rhinos, who were held to a 0-0 draw by Karoi United at Rimuka.

Former Premiership champions Gunners continued to drop points as they were held to a goalless draw by newcomers Cargo Carriers at Rufaro.

Although they dropped two points on Saturday, Gunners moved a place up the ladder to position six after Herentals and DStv Rangers lost their weekend games.
