A theme park or an amusement park is a place with attractions made up of rides such as roller coasters and water rides. They usually contain a selection of different types of rides, along with shops, restaurants and other entertainment outlets.

With this in mind, the Longcheng Plaza management has revealed the purchase of four new state-of-the art additions to their amusement park in a bid to attract more adrenalin seekers.

The equipment, which consists of the Tagada Disco, Space Shuttle, Bumper Cars and Pirate Ship, are expected to arrive in the country in a fortnight and would be installed and fully operational by the beginning of August 2015.

August being the time for the Harare Agricultural Show, teenagers will be spoilt for choices with the plaza giving a new feel of Disneyland.

Longcheng administrator, Mervyn Zhang, said the acquisition of the paraphernalia will be coming in different shapes and sizes to suit both teenagers and adults.

‘’The new equipment is meant to boost our amusement park in order to attract more thrill seekers as we seek to maintain the best standards as much as we can.

‘’We realised that most parents who come with their children just look as their kids enjoy themselves and we realised the need to introduce adult entertainment as well,” he said.

In an interview with CLS, some teenagers who regularly go to the Longchen Amusement Park said it was a noble idea to add equipment as lately they had always complained about the few available equipment and repeating the same rides was not quite amusing.

Munashe Kuleya (11) from Belvedere said the rides were being over used and eventually torn apart.

“The current rides at the amusement park had become a thing of the past as one would repeat the same rides every time and again, they were being over used and becoming boring and eventually worn apart”, he said.

For 13-year-old Panashe Rutsate from Dzivarasekwa the park had become boring.

“I really enjoy going to Longcheng Amusement Park but these days I prefer staying home to play with my sisters because I was getting bored of the same rides over and over again”, he said.

Alice Chen, the manager of the newly opened Longcheng restaurant is excited with the arrival of new equipment at the Amusement Park, as this is set to boost her culinary business. The Longcheng restaurant boasts a wide variety of Chinese traditional cuisine, which is already popular among the Chinese residents in the country and local food enthusiasts.

“Chinese food is nicer when one can use chopsticks, so we will be teaching all who come in, especially young children and teenagers how to use chopsticks. It is important to also know that Chinese food has many medicinal qualities – that when you eat at our restaurant you are not only filling up your stomach but building your body as well,” said Ms Chen.
