LONDON. — Arsenal have offered Arsene Wenger a new three-year deal. That’s according to Piers Morgan, who has described the development as “utterly outrageous”. Gooner Morgan tweeted: “I’ve been told on very good authority that Wenger’s been offered a new 3-yr contract by Arsenal. “If true, utterly outrageous. “Have you offered Wenger a new contract @Arsenal?

“If so, how can you possibly justify it on his performance over last 11 years?” Wenger’s position at the Emirates Stadium has come under threat in recent weeks following the collapse of Arsenal’s season.

The Gunners have slipped 11 points behind surprise leaders Leicester in the title race and were dumped out of the Champions League and FA Cup. The Frenchman is about to enter the final 12 months of the deal he signed in 2014.

It was reported in the week that Wenger is determined to keep his post and is targeting at least another year in the job. He is plotting a major shake up in the summer after seeing the wheels come off their campaign.

Wenger has insisted this season that he is hungrier than ever.

“I’m more motivated and committed than ever,” he said in October. “I know how sad people are when we lose a game.

“I’m committed until the last day of my contract to bring back big success and leave the club in the shape for the guy that comes after me.”

A host of former Gunners have questioned Wenger’s vocal critics.

David Seaman told the Daily Mirror: “I’m so fed up of all this negative stuff about Arsenal.

“A change at the top? Not for me. I’m a massive fan of Arsene.

“Let’s see what happens at the end of this season.

“Let’s see what’s gone wrong and then sort it out. But, for me, he’s been brilliant.

“I worked with him for about seven or eight years and he was fantastic.”

Mesut Ozil wants Wenger to splash the cash this summer.

The German midfielder believes the Gunners will need reinforcements if they are to compete with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City next term.

Guardiola will take over as City boss for the start of next season, having agreed a three-year deal at the Etihad.

And Ozil is in no doubt that the Spaniard will make an instant impact in England.

He told German newspaper Welt am Sonntag: “We know that it will not be easy and that we need reinforcements if we want next season to be on top here again. — The Daily Star.
