DYNAMOS coach Paulo Jorge Silva says he was overwhelmed by the spirit exhibited by his players and the club’s supporters after the DeMbare family yesterday converged at one of Harare’s major hospitals to sympathise with midfielder Valentine Ndaba, who was injured in a road accident on Monday night. Ndaba, who was apparently in stable condition yesterday, is recovering in hospital after sustaining bruises and cuts on the right arm and on the neck when the car he was travelling in was involved in a collision.

The accident occurred just a day after he had played a blinder in the Harare Derby. The exciting midfielder was one for the players on song for DeMbare as he wooed fans with his skill and slippery runs in the engine room despite their 0-1 defeat to CAPS United.

Yesterday Silva played a fatherly figure as he led his troops to see one of their own before going for the afternoon training session in preparation for the trip to Hwange. The DeMbare players filled the hospital ward while the supporters and some family members waited in the corridors for their turn to see the midfielder during the lunch hour visit.

Ndaba showed signs of discomfort, but occasionally he threw a smile and talked to his coach and teammates who cracked jokes and shared stories to cheer the mood. Silva said he was touched by the spirit in his camp after the players insisted they wanted to visit their teammate before the afternoon training session.

He said Dynamos are a united family and also applauded the supporters for standing with the team in such moments. The Portuguese mentor wished Ndaba a quick recovery. “We came here as a team and I am happy almost everyone is here. Our message to Valentine is that we wish a speedy recovery for him. At the same time he needs to relax.

“Dynamos is a family as they have just shown. We are all one and everyone is waiting for him to come back to the fold, he is like my son. “I have talked to Valentine, but what we discussed is between the coach and player, it’s confidential, but he feels very confident and is fighting. He is a strong man, he is a fighter, he is a lion.

“I didn’t ask him what happened because I want him to forget about it. I want him to focus on his recovery with his family and what I want to tell him is that as Dynamos we will not forget him. We are with him and we hope to see him soon back at training,” said Silva.

The extent of the injuries could not be ascertained yesterday, but Ndaba is likely to be out of action for some time to allow him to heal from the wounds.

DeMbare are set to travel to Hwange this weekend for their next assignment as they hope to bounce back after losing to bitter rivals CAPS United. The Harare giants have made a slow start after losing two games and winning one in their first four assignments. Silva has been given an ultimatum to collect nine points from three matches beginning with the trip to Mutare where they forced a 2-1 win.

But after two of the three games they have only managed three points following the loss to Makepekepe. DeMbare suffered their first defeat to their eternal rivals in seven years when one of their former players Dominic Chungwa punished them with 20 minutes of regulation time remaining.

Silva still got the credit after his side battled hard and long only for their blunt strikeforce to let them down. The DeMbare leadership indicated they will review the coach’s position after the Hwange match, which remains a must-win.
