National Arts Council of Zimbabwe, which organises National Arts Merit Awards, has called upon players in the arts industry to submit their 2015 entries.

The 15th edition of the NAMA will be held in February next year and the deadline for submissions is November 30. NACZ communications and marketing officer Cathrine Mthombeni (pictured) said they are calling for entries in various arts categories.

“Submission of entries is open. Our monitors are in the process of receiving the works. Artists are required to bring their works before the deadline,” she said. Over the years some artists have often complained about the selection of the nominees yet most of them fail to submit their work in time.

“The NAMA disciplines that are adjudicated are dance, film, literary arts, theatre, music, visual arts, media and spoken word and entries should come for those categories,” Mthombeni said.

Individual and institutional monitors have been appointed and have been monitoring works throughout the year in order to identify outstanding art products beside the submitted entries. The period of works to be submitted is from December 2014 to November 2015. NAMA is a forum where NACZ recognises outstanding achievements within the arts sector.

“Individuals submitting works for NAMA are encouraged to supply three sets of the particular works/production to assist adjudicators and these could be in the form of videotapes, cassettes, flash drives, CDs, pictures or books,” Mthombeni said.

The organisers are yet to announce the venue for the awards which are traditionally held in February.
