Upcoming afro-jazz sensation Myrah Dube has announced her entry into showbiz with her debut album “Introducing Myrah”. The album is receiving favourable airplay on local radio stations. Myrah said the response to her album is an indication of better days ahead in her career. “I know it’s not going to be a stroll in the park considering the many established musicians in the afro-jazz genre. But I have done my homework and I have faith in myself, the brand Myrah and the backing group I have put together. This is just the beginning and I believe better things lie ahead.”

Myrah, who over the weekend shared the stage with dendera crooner Tyson Chimbetu at a family show at The Avon Restaurant in Avondale, said she is getting more confident with each outing.

“My performances were largely at corporate functions but I am encouraged by the confidence that fellow established musicians and promoters are showing in me. I believe in myself and my act and I feel blessed to be working with a backing group made up of experienced and well-travelled instrumentalists who are not new to the afro-jazz genre either,” she said.

She said she was encouraged by the fans’ response at the show. “It was quite encouraging to have fans swaying to my music especially for an upstart like me, but I believe this is confirmation of what lies ahead of me. The backing group is as good as they come and we are looking forward to more such gigs.”.

Myrah, who is also a fashion model and is dressed by Uzuri Creations, said she believes in perfecting her stage work and professionalism.

“Afro-jazz is not just another genre and while I believe in what Zimbabwe has to offer musically, I have done my homework to be among the best and I am happy to say I have enlisted the services of a professional artiste management company to handle my affairs. I am even dressed by a respected local fashion house because I feel my appearance on stage is as important as the music I dish out,” she said.

Dube’s 10-track album was released into the market in early 2015 and she has not looked back since then. The album has songs “Shumba Woye”, which is favourite of many, young and old alike, “Ndomira Newe”, a love song; “Ndiri Ndega” and “Rhythms of a Heart”. Tracks “Mirira”, “Ndoenda”, “Keep On”, “Ndotenda”, “African Day” and “Nhamo” complete the list and are equally good.

The quality and sound of the production is top-notch and it remains to be seen if Myrah Dube will surpass the bar she has set for herself.
