THERE seems to be light at the end of the tunnel for Dynamos as the Harare giants yesterday welcomed the pair of Roderick Mutuma and Russell Madamombe at their training session following weeks of unsuccessful negotiations to retain their services.

The duo, who had been subject of speculation linking them with an exit from the Harare giants together with attacking midfielder Tafadzwa Rusike and Simba Sithole, pitched up yesterday to train with the side for the first time this season.

The quartet are part of the players whose contracts expired at the end of last year.

Although the Glamour Boys are keen to keep them, the players could not train with the team when they started their pre-season two weeks ago as the DeMbare management and their handlers have apparently been failing to make a breakthrough.

Mutuma and Madamombe turned up yesterday although no deal has been thrashed yet. Negotiations are still taking place but indications are that the players will eventually stay at the Glamour Boys.

Madamombe and Sithole are represented by Gibson Mahachi while Rusike and Mutuma are under the wings of Edzai Kasinauyo’s management.

Mahachi yesterday confirmed talks had reached an advanced stage for Madamombe and Sithole and an agreement could be reached any time starting today.

Goalkeepers coach Gift “Umbro” Muzadzi, who was in charge of the training yesterday, said they are still to hear from the executive concerning the players.

Muzadzi said their return could be a huge boost to the side following the departure of other key players like Ronald Chitiyo, Themba Ndlovu, Tawanda Muparati and Thomas Magorimbo.

“I don’t know how far the talks have gone. Of course, the boys trained with us but we haven’t received official communication from the executive.

“However, if you see someone coming to training it probably means they are on the brink of agreeing on whatever they have been discussing.

“It’s a boost the guys were here. They are very experienced and they know the culture of the team. So it could be a plus if they come back,” said Muzadzi.

Muzadzi will be in charge of the side’s preparations for the next two weeks as head coach David Mandigora and assistant Tonderai Ndiraya are currently attending a Caf A Licence course in Harare.

DeMbare have been beefing up their strike-force after signing Kelvin Bulaji and lining up last year’s Northern Division One Golden Boot winner, Kasimero Chimbadzwa, who is expected to join them from ZRP FC.

The side already had four other strikers from last year- Anesu Gondo, Patrick Khumbula, Clive Kawinga and Farai Mupasiri — but they needed back-up in case of injuries.

The quartet played cameo roles in the previous seasons due to injuries.

DeMbare had also set their eyes on veteran forward Newton Katanha and Misheck Mburayi but the pair did not turn up for training yesterday amid indications that they had failed to impress the technical team.

The duo has been training with the team in the last two weeks and featured in practice matches against lower division sides at the weekend.

Muzadzi however said the technical team was yet to sit and make a decision.

“We had trials and we were looking for just a few players because if you look at our squad it’s quite big already.

“We just have a few slots for more players, so I think the head coach, Tonde and myself will sit down when they come back from the course and then we decide who makes the grade among those who were short-listed.

“But we might sign maybe three or less if these guys are coming back (Mutuma, Sithole, Madamombe and Rusike). Those are the ones we wanted to replace as well, but if they are staying we might not have enough slots to sign other players.”

Dynamos are training with 39 players and will trim down to 35 in the coming weeks.
