ZPC Kariba midfielder Wisdom Mutasa’s injury during the weekend’s victory over Chicken Inn is not as bad as feared. The young midfielder lasted barely a minute on the pitch at Nyamhunga on Saturday when he came out the worst following a collision with Chicken Inn goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze after he was just introduced in the 85th minute. The Young Warriors skipper had replaced forward Tinei Chitora who scored the winner as they halted the defending champions’ unbeaten start. But yesterday there was positive feedback from the resort town with coach Sunday “Mhofu” Chidzambwa saying his midfielder was lucky to have escaped a bad injury.

“They suspect he overstretched the knee ligament, but he didn’t fracture and the bones are okay. The X-ray showed that everything is okay, but we will hear more from the medical team today (yesterday),” said Chidzambwa. ZPC Kariba showed they mean business as they beat champions Chicken Inn 1-0.

The Kariba side are on sixth position with seven points, five adrift of pacesetters FC Platinum. “It was a difficult match. They are a good side and well-organised. Our guys tried their best and managed to keep them at bay. Our goalkeeper (Tendai Hove) had a good game as well as the whole defence,” said Chidzambwa.

The veteran gaffer said as long as his players apply what he teaches them at training they will get it right. “It is a positive start. We need to work harder so that we keep up with the pacesetters. We cannot talk about the league title, it is still early to talk about that especially considering the fact that we have 12 new players who still need time to gel.

“I am happy, but we still have a long way to go and we will take each game as it comes,” he said. This weekend ZPC Kariba will travel to Triangle for a tricky match against Sugar Sugar Boys.

“This is another difficult match. He (Triangle coach David Mandigora) was my teammate and we played football together for the national team and Dynamos sharing the same room,” said Chidzambwa.

“But, for 90 minutes, we will be enemies and after that it would be over. It is a family affair and it would be interesting as Biggie (Zuze, Triangle assistant coach) is also one of the players I once coached.”
