Mutare City coach tips CAPS Utd for title

MUTARE CITY coach Taku Shariwa has tipped CAPS United to win the league title despite the Harare giants being three points behind pacesetters FC Platinum with nine games before the season ends. Shariwa’s team were humbled 1-4 by the Green Machine in a largely one-sided tie at the National Sports Stadium last Saturday.Veteran striker Leonard Tsipa scored a brace while Tafadzwa Rusike and Simba Nhivi provided a goal each for Makepekepe.

Agrippa Murimba gave the visitors a consolation.

Shariwa, whose men held FC Platinum to a 1-1 draw at Mandava before being deducted three points for using an ineligible player, is convinced the Green Machine can actually pip their rivals in the race for the big one.

“Honestly, I am putting all my money on CAPS United, not that they have completed a double over my team but they have the pedigree to do so,” said Shariwa.

“They have the strongest team on paper in the whole league and if they are to use their experience as a big team in the last matches, I bet they will win the league title.”

The youthful gaffer, who was within the technical department which won the title with Monomotapa in 2008, said Makepekepe could be difficult to stop in the final stages of the championship race.

“I am not taking anything away from FC Platinum. They are a good team with a very intelligent coach in Norman Mapeza, but I think this year’s title is CAPS United’s to lose,

“They play as a unit and anyone in the team can score and defend at the same time.

“This is their biggest opportunity to land the title in years now. I think they are going to be consistent in their last nine matches to follow and ultimately win the league race,” he said.
