MUTARE City Council will crack down on households and institutions illegally connected to water meters and getting water for free. Council public relations officer Mr Spren Mutiwi said the city was losing potential revenue as a result of the illegal connections.

“The council has lost potential revenue through illegal water connections and we will track down households and institutions that have been accessing water through illegal connections,” he said. Mr Mutiwi said council will next year install pre-paid water meters in some residential areas. He said the project was incorporated in council’s 2018 budget.

“The issue of pre-paid water meters was incorporated in the 2018 budget and the project is earmarked for next year,” he said. Mr Mutiwi said council had since awarded a tender to a local company to spearhead the Dangamvura pipeline construction. The target is to complete the pipeline in the next six months.
