A Great Zimbabwe University student, Mollen Makoni, has thanked top local musicians for helping raise funds which enabled her to undergo a successful kidney transplant in India.

Mollen (27) returned home on Sunday after spending almost three months in the Asian country while being accompanied by her mother. Her young sister Tendai who donated a kidney to her returned home earlier.

Several musicians including Suluman Chimbetu, Mathias Mhere, Sabastian Magacha and Somandla Ndebele held several fundraising shows which contributed to the $21 000 that was required for Mollen to receive medical attention in India.

Politician and entrepreneur Killer Zivhu contributed part of the money and chipped in with air tickets..

The musicians held shows in cities like Masvingo and Mutare where part of the money for Mollen’s treatment was raised.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Mollen said the kindness of the musicians had given her another chance to live and expressed her hope that others in need would also be reached by the same helping hands.

“I want to thank Zivhu for mobilising the musicians who helped in fundraising for my treatment,That does not have to stop with me, they should help others as well.

“I am now back home fit and I will now live my life normally. I am excited that I will be back in school and be able to take care of my family.”

Mollen said she was now healed and no longer felt any pain.

Speaking at the same occasion, Zivhu said his organisation will continue working with musicians to help those in need and thanked all those who participated in fundraising for Mollen.
