Award-winning musician Tererai Mugwadi (30) was on Friday fined $50 by a Harare magistrate for disorderly conduct after she tore a docket and insulted a police officer. Mugwadi, of 1 Shamwari Farm Stapleford, Mt Hampden, told the court that she had fallen on hard times and could not pay the fine forthwith. Mugwadi pleaded guilty, but told Harare magistrate Ms Nomsa Sabarauta that she only had $10 and no savings or assets of value.

She pleaded for more time to look for the money and Ms Sabarauta extended her time to pay to tomorrow. Mugwadi and her boyfriend were arrested after they failed to pay a taxi fare on Thursday last week at around 1am. Prosecutor Ms Shambadzeni Fungura told the court that the couple was taken to Fife Avenue police base in Harare.

Mugwadi snatched a form from a police officer, Gerald Mhundiwa (30), who was completing her doc- ket. She tore the document into pieces before insulting the police officer with unprintable words.
