Venues across the country this weekend host top musicians as some spots continue to celebrate the nation’s 35 years of independence.

Since the Union Jack was lowered for the last time in 1980, Zimbabweans have been freely enjoying music and musicians have been competing to entertain.

Staging gigs and enjoy willingly was a nightmare during the Smith regime that oppressed the majority.

Tonight dendera musician Suluman Chimbetu stages a homecoming show at Dandaro Inn in the capital.

Chimbetu was in Botswana celebrating Independence last week with Zimbabweans based in that country.

The musician’s publicist Joe Nyamungoma said they will share their Botswana experience with their fans on the show tonight.

“That was a good experience in Botswana and when we perform at Dandaro Inn we will have surprises and our fans should come in their numbers to support us,” said Nyamungoma.

At Ice and Fire Pamuzinda two sungura legends Alick Macheso and Nicholas Zakaria share the stage.

The show was planned after Macheso cancelled his South Africa tour due to xenophobia attacks.

Show promoter Josh Hozheri said they were expecting fireworks as the two have been doing their best.

“Sungura music history is not complete if we dont mention these two musicians and we are having them on our joint. We hope fans will enjoy the combination,” he said.

In Marondera Peter Moyo is expected to give his fans the best when he performs at Legends Bar in Mashonaland East Capital.

The top class bar has managed to bring live shows to the town that was running out of venues.

Venue owner Daniel Masaiti said they were looking forward to a great show as they celebrates 35 years of independence and the life of the province’s music ambassador Daiton Somanje who died two weeks ago.

“We will be celebrating 35 years of independence at the same time the life of the late musician Daiton Somanje who died recently,” said Masaiti.

At Murewa Growth point Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance provincial competition takes place as 10 groups battle for supremacy at the prestigious event.
