ZIMBABWE international and Mamelodi Sundowns striker Nyasha Mushekwi faces an anxious week in Europe as he awaits to establish whether he will secure a deal to play for Swedish club Djurgadens IF ahead of that country’s transfer window deadline. According to reports from Sweden, Mushekwi remains at Djurgadens IF but is still uncertain of winning a contract as the Swedish transfer window deadline approaches.

Mushekwi, who has had to battle with injuries, has been at Djurgadens for the past month but question marks remain hanging with the Swedish window closing on Wednesday March 31.

The former CAPS United hit man is still contracted to Sundowns despite not having played for the South African Premiership champions for almost two years now.

According to Kickoff.com, Mushekwi is struggling with communication challenges, but has impressed on the training ground during his time in the Scandinavian country.

Sundowns’ had to turn to Mushekwi’s countryman, Cuthbert Malajila, to lead their line of attack this season and the 29 year-old former Dynamos and Chapungu striker has responded by firing in 10 league goals in 22 appearances.

Malajila is currently joint top scorer on 10 goals with Moeketsi Sekola of Free State Stars.

Mosimane believes Malajila will grab the ABSA Premiership’s Golden Boot award at the end of the season.

It has been a tough call for strikers to reach the 15-goal mark in the South African Premiership with only three players – Knowledge Musona, Siyabonga Nomvete and Katlego Mphela – having achieved that feat in the past five years.

Malajila is, however, being closely monitored by French Ligue 1 club Lille with a view to lure him to Europe in the near future.

It is understood that the Lille scouts were in South Africa for a closer look at Warriors and Sundowns hotshot Khama Billiat, and during their spying mission the French club also showed interest in both Zimbabweans.

While it looking all promising for Malajila, the same cannot be said for Mushekwi who has endured a frustrating time to his career with bids to move to Denmark or return to Belgium having hit snags.

Mushekwi’s initial move to Belgium, a loan spell at KV Oostende, also ended prematurely because of his injury.

Although he is back and reportedly fit again, is it understood that if he does not win a contract in Sweden, then Mushekwi will return to South Africa to revive his career in the Absa Premiership where a number of clubs are interested in his services.

Mushekwi and his agent Ralph Nkomo have however, not made a secret of the fact that the striker is itching to get back to the game.

“I t goes without saying that he wants out at Sundowns. What infuriated him the most was that he was never even registered by the club for the 2014-15 season,’’ Nkomo said.

Mushekwi’s Zimbabwean compatriot, Ralph Matema, is enduring his own edgy moment in South Africa.

Matema remains ‘parked’ at promotion chasing First Division club Jomo Cosmos as he continues to wait for his permanent residence by the Department of Home Affairs.

The 32-year-old former Kambuzuma United man was signed by Cosmos at the beginning of the season but he is yet to play in any official matches.
