Afro-Jazz musician Prince Kudakwashe Musarurwa is set to make his debut United Kingdom tour this September. Musarurwa will share the stage with dendera musician Suluman Chimbetu and Zim dancehall “doctor” Freeman.

In an interview with The Herald Entertainment, Musarurwa said he was very happy to be performing in the UK for the first time saying he is optimistic that the tour will turn a new leaf in his career.

“It feels good and all I can say is I am thankful and grateful to God that after a number of years in the industry I am going to be taking my music to the UK. I am sure that this tour is going to be my breakthrough in the industry,” he said.

The “Gara Muberere” hitmaker, who will be accompanied by his band the Afro Royals, said all band members are ready for the tour.

“We have been rehearsing and also have been perfecting our acts during live performances and on behalf of the band I can say we are promising fireworks,” he said.

Musarurwa highlighted that he was happy with the way his fourth album has been received. “I am happy that my latest album is currently doing well locally and we will be taking it to our fans in the UK and I am sure by the time we leave the country the DVD will also be out,” he said.

They are set to leave the country on September 20.

Musarurwa, who hogged the limelight when he featured on his niece Pah Chihera’s hit “Runonzi Rudo”, was introduced on the entertainment scene by his six-track album titled “Gara Muberere” which was frequently played on local radio stations. The album, which is loaded with afro-jazz songs, gives the feel of a talented young musician whose touch convinces listeners that he is indeed from a music family.

He is the grandson to yesteryear music legend, Augustine Musarurwa, of “Skokiaan” fame. He has four albums under his belt, namely “Kurarama”, “Gara Muberere”, “Gogodera” and the latest offering “Chiga Chikuru”.

His music carries cultural and traditional messages from modern perspective. He said he draws his inspiration from Oliver Mtukudzi and the late Chiwoniso Maraire while internationally he is inspired by Salif Keita from Mali. The 26-year- old musician is working with a number of female artistes locally and regionally.

He has a duet with Botswana musician Slizer, born Naledi Kaisara, called “IFriday Mudiwa” and has collaborated with Ugandan songbird Daisy Ejang on a love song “I Must Stick With You”.
