Urban grooves musician Tawanda Mugodhi, of the “Adibale” fame, is set to launch his clothing label at PaMereki in the capital this Saturday. “Team Tawanda” is the name of the clothing label which will include T-shirts and caps. In an interview with The Herald Review, Mugodhi said as an artiste, he needs to diversify his craft and fashion was one avenue to do so.

“Basically as an artiste, I have to be artistic in every way including the way I dress. So I have decided to have my own clothing label as an advancement to my musical career. I am starting with ‘Team Tawanda’ which is basically for my fans but I am going to launch many clothing labels for circular fashion. For instance I am going to launch a ladies wear after the Team Tawanda then a number are set to come,” he said.

Meanwhile, a number of urban grooves artists are set to perform at the launch and these include Nox and Trevor D who is going to be the special guest.

Musically Mugodhi said he was working on a new album to be released by mid-2016.

“I am currently working on my fourth album and I can now say I am half way done with four tracks ready. These are ‘Handina’ and ‘Maobama’,” he said.

Mugodhi is one of the pioneers of the urban grooves genre having hogged the limelight with a number of hits with fellow artistes including TK Hollun, Trevor D, Nox among others. However, the genre, which came to life at the turn of the millennium, has been criticised for lack of originality and depth, which has seen too many one-hit wonders and the production of sub-standard work due to lack of technical know-how and management on the part of the artistes.
