Mufakose 2 High School were surprise winners of the theatre and dance category at the third annual Schools Arts Festival organised by Let Them Trust held last weekend at the Harare Exhibition park. The festival which drew more than 40 Government and private schools from around the country since its inception in 2013, had 26 schools participating this year and the Harare school walked away with a trophy.

In an interview with Cool Lifestyle, Mufakose 2 High School drama representative Leroy Bernet (16) said their hard work had finally paid off.

“We have been rehearsing and waiting to win this title ever since the festival began in 2013 and I guess this year our hard work has finally paid off. We were the underdogs since everyone expected Njube High to win but to our surprise the judges ruled in our favour,” he said.

In the tightly contested category George Stark were in second position followed by the 2014 winners Njube High School and Warren Park 1 High and Tafara High completed the fourth and fifth positions respectively.

“This year’s festival was fairly contested and as a team we had planned to cause upsets by walking away with the trophy but all the same we managed to scoop the second position which is fair to us. We hope to bring up an exciting performance come next year,” said Tarisai Makuyana a George Stark drama captain.

Festival director Chido Musasiwa said this year’s event was a success because of the team spirit and the continued support and participation by most schools who are taking Let Them as a platform to further pupils’ talents.

The festival was also a hive of activity as artistes like award winning Tehn Diamond, Amara Brown, Baba Shupi, Transit Crew, Snipper, poet Albert Nyathi, Ignatius Mabasa, Nqobile Malinga and many others took centre stage.
