The inaugural Christian Hip-hop Awards (CHHA) that were held at Borrowdale Community Church were a success. The colourful ceremony which was awarding upcoming and renowned local musicians in hip-hop saw electrifying performances from Mudiwa Hood, Matthias Mhere, L4Him, Shingirai Mau-Mau to Ill Ceey among others. CHHA founder, Noel Borerwe said he was happy with the huge turnout.

“I am happy that everything went according to plan although there were hiccups here and there but we owe this success to God,” he said.

Borerwe also known as Nowizz in music circles said they have started planning for next year.

“We have noticed some of the mistakes that we made of which next year will be bigger and better. We are now in the process of planning the second edition which we wish to incorporate more sponsors and partners as this year we did it on our own,” he said.

Nowizz said they got the venue three weeks before the event.

“The issue of venue was affecting me each day, on how we were going to do it, but luckily we got the venue. We had our miniature trophies that we were giving people and I am happy that the winners are happy,” he said.

The founder-cum-musician said the show was also a platform for upcoming musicians to shine.

“If you check closely the entertainment line up of the night, we had a lot of upcoming musicians to give them a chance to showcase their talent.

“We want to continue promoting local Christian hip-hop music which is also dominating in the industry,” he said.

Guest of the honour Aldrin “Beefy” Harrison, founder of the Zimbabwe Hip-hop awards praised the organisers saying it was a good start in the Christian kingdom.

“When we started the hip-hop awards people thought we were mad. I assure you that the genre is fast growing and what the organisers of this show did is a noble idea of promoting the genre in a gospel way yet alone awarding the musicians,” he said.
