DYNAMOS chairman Kenny Mubaiwa yesterday said they had proved that they are the “real champions” after lifting the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title for a fourth consecutive year when they beat How Mine at National Sports Stadium yesterday. Dynamos got their goals from Russell Madamombe 14 minutes into the game while captain Murape Murape grabbed a crucial goal in the 89th minute to seal the victory for his side as the history of claiming the championship on the last day of the programme, repeated itself.

DeMbare found themselves in the same scenario as last year when they won the league on the last day of the season and crucially needed a helping hand from bitter city rivals CAPS United.

Yesterday Dynamos turned the tables on ZPC Kariba, fighting from two points behind to retain the ultimate prize in domestic football.

The Glamour Boys fell two points behind ZPC Kariba when they lost their top of the table clash 2-1 and came into this game needing not just victory over How Mine but a CAPS United triumph in order to be guaranteed of success.

It all appeared like movie script as CAPS United raced into a 3-1 lead before allowing ZPC Kariba to pull one back and cause anxious moments to those watching the game at the National Sports Stadium where there were genuine fears that a fighting How Mine could spoil their party.

Until Murape struck the decisive blow in the 89th minute How Mine were trailing by a goal and very much with a chance of forcing a draw.

Mubaiwa cast a lone figure in the VVIP tribune with his colleagues in the management team conspicuous by their absence.

The Dynamos chairman said he had always believed in the team and their fighting spirit which has taken them this far.

“I am very happy but it’s not a surprise because I knew we were going to lift the trophy because in Dynamos we have the real champions in our players.

“I told my guys lets show them that we are the real champions, let’s show ZPC that they are still amateurs, they cannot lift the championship straight away from promotion. So we instilled discipline into our players and they knew what they were playing for today and I am quite happy,” said Mubaiwa.

The Dynamos chairman, however, admitted that CAPS United’s victory was vital in their success yesterday as the tables turned in their favour.

“The only challenge that we had today was that we were waiting for that game between CAPS United and ZPC Kariba. We knew we were going to win the game but we were waiting for that result from CAPS and ZPC which made it all possible

“Even though they (Dynamos) did not perform well today what is important is to score and win so there is no bad win,” said Mubaiwa.

Dynamos, who started on a slow pace got their first goal from Madamombe when he received a good pass from Tichaona Mabvura inside the box beating How Mine goal minder, Bernard Donovan to take his side into the lead.

On the terraces, the Dynamos fans erupted into a frenzy each time news filtered from Gwanzura that CAPS United had scored and they seemed to celebrate the goals from Gwanzura more those they were watching at the National Stadium.

And Dynamos fans were already celebrating as the news that CAPS United had taken the lead at Gwanzura reached them.

If DeMbare were somewhat lethargic in the first half, they upped their game in the second half with the introduction of Ronald Chitiyo for the ineffective Farai Mupasiri giving them more width while the former Monomotapa man gave problems to the ageing How Mine defenders.

Their increased pressure finally paid off with Murape’s shot from close range sealing their win.
