Mt Darwin primary poll today

Zanu-PF will today hold primary elections in Mount Darwin West in preparation for the March 27 by-election in that constituency. The seat was left vacant by former Vice President Dr Joice Mujuru after she was appointed VP in September 2013. She was rejected in the constituency after she was exposed for plotting to unseat President Mugabe unconstitutionally.

In a statement yesterday, Zanu-PF national secretary for the commissariat Cde Saviour Kasukuwere, said the party had set 46 polling stations in the constituency and they would be opened at 0700 hours.

“All polling stations open at 0700 hours and voting through secret ballot begins immediately thereafter,” he said.

“There are 46 polling stations in all and 11 teams, each comprising of members of the Central Committee, National Consultative Assembly and Provincial leadership, War Veterans, ZEPPDRA and War Collaborators will be drawn from each Administrative District of Mashonaland Central Province to constitute the core of the Presiding and Polling officers who will be deployed at ward command centres and polling stations.”

He said the polling stations would close at 1900 hours, except in circumstances where voters would have arrived at the station before closing time and were still awaiting their turn to vote.

Cde Kasukuwere said cell membership registers approved by the province would be used and only those members appearing on the voters roll with national identity cards and were known by fellow party members were eligible to vote.

“Once voting is complete, counting shall immediately commence and presiding officers shall, after first forwarding results to the party headquarters, announce results at the polling station,” he said.

Another by-election is due in Chirumhanzu-Zibagwe constituency after the seat was left vacant following the elevation of Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa to Vice Presidency post.

Zanu-PF will be represented by Cde Auxilia Mnangagwa who was nominated unopposed.
