The unorthodox pageant, Mr Ugly, seems to be growing in popularity with corporates coming on board.  As William Masvinhu retained his title as Mr Ugly Harare at the City Sports Bar on Friday night, what was more impressive was the winning package he took home.

Besides the US$1 500 from the organisers, local company, Lifel Investments gave away packages that not only benefited the participants, but their families as well.

Among the prizes handed to the participants were overalls, safety shoes and rain coats. The company also added US$200 to Masvinu’s grand prize, US$100 to the first runner up, Benny Chakanyuka and US$50 and groceries to the second runner up Funny Musekiwa.

Masvinhu also won a year’s school fees for one child while the second runner up would benefit from a term’s schools fees for his child.
Lifel representative Mr Edgar Chakanyudze, said his company was supportive on the initiative.

“We believe that ‘beauty’ comes in different forms. In support of its cause, we have decided to give all participants a complete work suite that includes safety shoes and rain coats. We will also pay school fees for three terms for the winner and one term for the first runner up,” he said.

The show’s national co-ordinator, David Machona, said improvements were being made to ensure that winners were adequately rewarded for their efforts.
