Lack of resources has constrained Zanu-PF legislators from fulfilling their mandate in constituencies in line with the Government’s economic blueprint, Zim-Asset.
Zanu-PF national chairman Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo, who is also Senior Minister of State in the Office of the President and Cabinet, yesterday said performance appraisal reports were encouraging.

Despite facing several challenges, party legislators still managed to carry on with party business in their respective constituencies.
Zanu-PF leadership early this year demanded that all party MPs in the Eighth Parliament were expected to submit quarterly performance appraisals in line with the objective of fulfilling election promises.

“Performance appraisal reports have been pouring into my office from all the provinces from hard-working MPs who are real Members of Parliament not Missing Persons,” he said.

“I can confirm the director in my office responsible for receiving these reports has been working overtime to cope with the task.
“Some provinces have had 100 percent returns while a few are at 70-80 percent returns. Problems affecting MPs are logistics and finance because all MPs have not been receiving their allowances from Parliament and this has affected their movement to traverse their constituencies, particularly rural MPs.”

He said it was important for party legislators to keep in touch with their constituents, adding that it was important that funding be found to enable MPs carry out their duties.

“I must, however, commend several MPs who have gone into their pockets in order to meet the expectations of people in their respective constituencies.

“Most MPs have remained in touch with their constituents and have started encouraging developmental projects, which are in line with our Zim Asset economic blueprint.

“Those few MPs who have not yet submitted their performance appraisal reports must endeavour to do so by end of this month,” said Cde Khaya Moyo.

He said after going through all the submissions, the party would come up with a consolidated report of the MPs’ performance.
