Afro-jazz crooner and green ambassador Dereck Mpofu is breaking new ground by offering fans his debut live DVD recording of his latest album “Godobori” (Expert) at Theatre In The Park in Harare Gardens on October 14.

The album carries 11 tracks that include “Mari”, “Ndinokakama”, “Ngirozi”, “Mweya WechiZimba”, “Godobori”, “Dzoka Kumba” (featuring Cynthia Mare), “Chikwambo” and “Higher” that features Shinsoman. In an interview, Mpofu said coming up with a live DVD was a way of catering for his fans who miss his live shows.

“This will be my first live DVD recording and it’s really meant to bring my fans across the country together in one place to celebrate a wonderful year and also capture the moments. However, the general idea is to bring my live show into the homes of people who may otherwise never attend any of my shows for one reason or the other and give them the same experience that’s felt by those that attend,” he said.

The DVD is expected to carry 15 tracks. Meanwhile, Mpofu said he was overwhelmed by the success of his latest album.

“I am really happy with the way this album was received on the market. I am still getting overwhelming responses and most of the songs are doing extremely well on radio chart shows. For me it is a milestone in my career as a musician,” he said.

Mpofu has worked with different artistes, both locally and internationally, on different projects that includes the Green Concert that serves as an environmental awareness campaign through music. He has collaborated with Nigerian artist Kunle Ayo, South African superstars Winnie Khumalo and Teddy Bears, Botswana’s Amantle, Spiza and Bouncy, Norry Malonga from the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Albums under his sleeve are “Handizirini”, a 2010 production, “Dr Philosophy”(2013) and “Diplomatic Alliances”( 2015).
