MP arrested on rape charges

indications that 10 more rape charges are likely to be preferred against him.

Ndambakuwa, who was arrested in Karoi on Thursday before being transferred here, reportedly raped the teena-ger in December last year.
By late last night he was still assisting Chinhoyi CID with investigations.

Chief police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Wayne Bvudzijena, yesterday confirmed the arrest.
“I can confirm that the MP has been arrested on allegations of raping a 15-year-old girl. That is all I can say at the moment as we are still carrying out investigations,” he said.

LEGISLATORS, THE LAW AND MORE

Police sources said a woman from Magunje had app-roached police with her daughter alleging she had also been raped by the MP.
At least 10 other people are making the same allegations against Ndambakuwa, but are still to lodge formal reports, the sources said.

Charges against the legislator arose after a Magunje man who had allegedly caught him in a compromising position with his wife spilled the beans.
“This prompted thorough investigations into a matter in which the MP is alleged to have assaulted a man who confronted him on allegations of sleeping with his wife at Magunje Growth Point. During investigations into the matter, a 15-year-old girl claimed that he had raped her,” said a source.

The MP and the girl went to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital for tests as per standard procedure.
The Police Victim Friendly Unit, which deals with rape cases, has also been roped in to look into the case.

Ndambakuwa is expected to appear in court on Monday for his initial remand.
The MP was last year accused of impregnating a 17-year-old girl who went on to commit suicide.
