Mozambican police intercept trafficking of 10 women

MAPUTO. – Mozambican police said on Wednesday they had intercepted ten women being trafficked to Saudi Arabia where they would serve as house maids.

Police spokeswoman in Cabo Delgado province, northern Mozambique, Malva Brito, said the women were discovered on Tuesday in a house, where they were waiting for medical examinations and passports to travel to Saudi Arabia.

“The women were recruited by two Mozambicans in northern Nampula province and transported by bus to Cabo Delgado where they were discovered. The other two traffickers, the Tanzanians who would be responsible for taking these women out of Mozambique have escaped,” said the spokeswoman.

The women told police that they would work as domestic servants and continue their studies abroad.

The spokeswoman said authorities are looking for the two Tanzanian citizens. The Mozambicans involved are workers in an import and export company.

Mozambique has been pointed as a transit point for victims of human trafficking but it was the first time with registration to Saudi Arabia. – Xinhua.
