SENIOR Minister of State in the President’s Office Cde Simon Khaya Moyo has called on Zimbabweans to shun the “consumerist culture” and embrace saving as a way of empowering themselves and spur economic revival.
Addressing hundreds of people at an International Day of Co-operatives commemorations here recently, Cde Khaya Moyo said in line with the Zim-Asset thrust, saving at household level played a critical role in building critical pillars for development.

“Savings and Credit Cooperatives are critical in our society. They inculcate a culture of saving.
“Today our people have succumbed to a consumerist culture. They want to spend without making any savings.

This is not good for us as a nation. We need to save in order to invest and empower ourselves whilst we revive our economy,” he said.
He said there was need for people to save so that they could investment and empower themselves.
