Winky D is known for outclassing foreign acts, but he will have a tough task to maintain the standard when he faces acclaimed Jamaican group Morgan Heritage at City Sports Centre on December 31. Last weekend Winky D gave another Jamaican singer, I-Octane, a hard night on stage after putting up a splendid act that the visitor failed to match. It has become common for the Ninja President, as Winky D is popularly known, to outshine highly-rated international stars.

He got away with credits over the past years at different shows that featured the likes of United States’ Sean Kingston, D’Banj from Nigeria, Bebe Cool of Uganda and Mavado. But on December 31, the Ninja President will have to put extra effort to rise to the occasion when he performs on the same stage with Morgan Heritage.

Morgan Heritage is an experienced outfit that has shaken different stages across the world and the group is rated as one of the best family groups in the reggae industry. Also supporting Morgan Heritage at the show would be local acts Soul Jah Love, Killer T, Kinnah, Junior Banton, Hotta Fire band, DJ Cables, Garry B and Templeman.

One of Morgan Heritage’s members Mr Mojo was in the country recently to prepare the ground for the historic tour. During his stay in the country Mr Mojo promised the best during the tour.

“I am happy that my visit has been fruitful. I have met Zimbabwean promoters and our dream to tour Zimbabwe is about to come true. We are ready to bring the best entertainment to the country. It will be a night for uplifting the body, the soul and the mind,” he said.

Mr Mojo said he is happy they will come to Zimbabwe at a time they are marketing their 10th album “Strictly Roots”, which is their first album to be marketed by their own label CTBC (Cool to be Conscious). Show organisers said preparations for the gig are at an advanced stage.

Divine Assignments and Chipaz Promotions are working together to present the show that could also be the biggest gig of 2015. It will be the first time for Morgan Heritage to perform in Zimbabwe and they are likely to usher music fans into 2016 in style and make it the best show of the year.

Most foreign artists that performed in the country this year have a lot to learn from Morgan Heritage. Morgan Heritage is a reggae band formed in 1994 by five children of reggae artist Denroy Morgan, namely Peter “Peetah” Morgan, Una Morgan, Roy “Gramps” Morgan, Nakhamyah “Lukes” Morgan and Memmalatel “Mr. Mojo” Morgan.

The group has a string of successful hits that include “Don’t Haffi Dread”, “Tell Me How Come”, “Down by River”, “Strictly Roots” and “Liberation”.
