AfrO-fusion group Mokoomba are set to perform at Greenpop Earthfest to be held in Livingstone, Zambia, next month.

The festival aims to raise awareness about deforestation, climate change, environmental sustainability and alternative sources of energy.

South African musician Jeremy Loops will also be part of the musicians that will be performing at the festival. Other artistes that are billed to perform at the same festival are Chicken Bus Band and Yes Rasta.

The group’s manager, Marcus Gora, said they were excited to be invited to such prestigious festivals.

“That will be a good experience for us to perform at such a prestigious event and it gives us chances to link up with several African artistes,” said Gora. That will be their first time to perform at the festival and they have promised a great show that will serve its purpose.

“We will be playing there for the first time and it is a pleasure to play again in Livingstone, Zambia, which is very close to our home town Victoria Falls,” he said.

The group will be playing on the main day of the festival.

Gora said they will also be part of the activities in schools as well as tree planting.

“We hope not only to have a great concert but to also help in the festival’s efforts to raise awareness about environmental issues that affect the region and we will be participating in different activities that will be held there,” he said.

“As you can see, the environment has been negatively affected and this is causing a lot of problems.

“Also climate change has affected us and people need to know about all these hazards, so I think we will playing our part by raising awareness on these issues and others,” he added.

The group has performed in several countries and they have been well received by several people.

Their latest album “Rising Tide” has made an impact locally and abroad. “We have something that is in the pipeline but we cannot give dates yet,” he said. The group’s performance in such events will be an eye-opener to Green Ambassador Dereck Mpofu and his green friends to have well-organised concerts that raise awareness about environment preservation.
