Veteran lead guitarist and music producer Clive Mono Mukundu has released his ninth album titled “Gwenyagitare”. The album also features Mukundu’s son, Takakunda Mukundu, and carries 10 tracks. In an interview with The Herald Entertainment, the soft-spoken Mono Mukundu, as he is popularly known in music circles, said the album is in his usual genre of traditional sound fused with modern Afro-jazz.

His desire of seeing his son’s dream come true has driven him to work with him. “I started working on the album in 2013 and I decided to rope in the services of my son, Taka, who is doing well on the guitars and on this album, he played the rhythm guitar,” he said. Mukundu said the album touches on a number of issues that affect people in ther day-to-day lives.

“The messages on the album touch on various topics from church to social issues, for instance on ‘Mwana Wesangano’, we talk about pastors who disrespect God by twisting the Bible then on ‘Kuomeserana’, we speak against a certain Zimbabwean culture of making life tough for those who are mourn- ing.

“Zviya zvokuti panhamo dzimwe hama dzinouya dzoomesa zvinhu or pamuchato instead of helping.” The title track “Gwenyagitare” refers to a guitarist and on this one I will be simply celebrating my God-given gift,” he said.

The accomplished guitarist said his desire of seeing his son’s dream come true has driven him to work with his son.

“My son is very talented, so it is my role as a parent to sell him to the industry and besides the usual joy of working with your own child, it’s also a way of marketing him,” he said.

Mukundu also urged parents to fully support their children when choosing a career. “As for me, I support my son 150 percent, I drive him to all his gigs, and interviews. I have even created a YouTube channel where I post his works.

“My daughter, Tariro, is the one who did the CD’s artwork as she is a graphic designer.

“So my advice to parents out there is don’t force your children to live your dream, let them live theirs,” he said. Mono is one of the most recorded artistes in the country.
