It was a mixed bag at Odyssey Hotel in Kadoma last Friday night as musicians performed at the Kadoma Agricultural Show shut down. South African group Mafikizolo, Oliver Mtukudzi, Tendai Dembo, Jah Prayzah, Leonard Zhakata and Diana Samkange took turns to perform.

Though some fans were complaining about the $15 charged for an ordinary ticket with the VIP going for $20, multitudes of revellers attended the gig. Outside the venue parking space was a nightmare with some motorists parking their cars about 500 meters from the venue. Dembo proved he is in the right direction performing his father’s old hits and his own compositions. Mtukudzi for almost an hour, belting out most of his hit songs.

His stage presence at the show charmed revellers who were dancing and singing along to his tunes. He was joined by Samkange on stage who did a song congratulating him for turning 65. Samkange gave a short performance that left fans convinced that she is still in the game. Jah Prayzah who arrived at the venue in a movie style with several body guards, managed to give fans the best. He performed most of his sing along songs including “Goto”,”My Lilly” and “Hello”. Revellers went into frenzy when he sampled two songs that will feature on his upcoming album “Kutonga Kwaro” that will be launched at HICC on October 13.

“We are performing these songs so that people get to appreciate the album before the release,” he said. Mafikizolo gave their best performance hailing the organisers for their commitment to bring fun to Kadoma. While on stage the group pronounced their love for Zimbabwe. “Kucheza” “Khona” and “Ndichahamba Nawe” were on their playlist. They invited Jah Prayzah back on stage for their song “Sendekera” much to the delight of the fans.

“You have shown us great love, Kadoma and this one is a surprise we are performing this song we recorded with Jah Prayzah for the first time here,” they announced. However, there was disappointment on the night when Zero Crime Security staffer Esau Hondora assaulted freelance journalist Tsitsi Ndabambi after a misunderstanding at the entrance. The security company was contracted by organisers 2 Kings Entertainment. 2Kings Entertainment have since apologised to Ndambambi and taken care of her medical bills. They have also promised to take action against Hondora.
