Act like you are walking on the ramp in a corridor at home and just feel special. Then you can embrace fashion just like models. Remember the right fashion can change your life for the better since when you feel good in your clothes it will make you more confident and thereby attract positive energy. One thing you have to know in fashion is how you carry your clothes off.It doesn’t matter how expensive your clothes are, or what brand they belong to, you can make yourself look worth a million dollars by feeling comfortable with the colours and clothes that you choose for yourself.

You just have to be conscious about your choice, don’t be passive and adopt the attitude that “clothes just need to cover my body” or “OMG this is the latest ensemble that’s been trending all over the internet and magazines so I am going to get it”.

I have seen people buy exactly what mannequins in shop windows wear with the misplaced hope of looking exactly like that. Unless you share an exact body type with the mannequin, then you must know that the clothes will look different on you. So adapt the outfit accordingly. But most important of all, wear clothes that you’re comfortable and confident in.

Fashion weekends are here, are you ready for some action?

Last week there was the Zimbabwe Fashion International event and along with many fashion enthusiasts and stars I missed it. The event was somehow held under wraps. I personally did not attend because my invite came very late and I had unbreakable plans.

Other people I spoke to said they were also surprised by the pre-publicity of the event. But who knows? Maybe the organisers are gunning for exclusivity and decided to go small and elite.

Close sources said that this year ZFI 2016 Winter Fall Collection was a hit courtesy of David Alford’s quite impressive collection.

Today all “ramp” roads lead to the inaugural Zimbabwe Model Workshop which is being hosted at the Zimbabwe German Society where fashionistas, designers, bloggers and models are set to exchange notes on how best they can develop the industry.

It is true that fashion should be taken serious just as in other countries in the world.

But maybe we need to stand for something instead of just falling for anything.

What is it that the Zimbabwean fashion industry is known for?

Italians have the leather accessories and silk suits, the French are chic, Ghana has the Kente, Nigeria has come to dominate the African attire, South Africans have given us the African bride look and beads.

Educate me if I am wrong, but it looks like Zimbabwe is yet to give itself and the world something.

Let us now get into this week’s fashion trends. The alert is flashing on “Mix and Match”.

Colour mixing is something that used to be guided by almost holy laws. But now fashion changes and if you want to stay trendy you have to understand the way the current winds are blowing.

One designer said mix and match is not about good talent but a skill you need to learn.

You need to know that when we are talking about colours in fashion, “complimentary” actually means “opposite”.

Black and white, for instance, are complimentary colours.

That is why they look so great together.

Opposites attract that is the whole point of mix and match.

Every colour has a complimentary colour. If your education somehow skipped the colour wheel or colour circle, please look it up as it will help you avoid commuting colour mixing crimes.

Colours next to each other on the wheel, like yellows and oranges, go well together without being too overwhelming.

Red and green, or blue and yellow, are good examples.

These colours will often “pop” against one another for a bright outfit.

Neutrals are sometimes called classic shades for a reason. Colours like white, black, beige, and brown can be your best friend in pulling together or balancing an outfit.

Make sure you follow the trend well, don’t be lost in the closet.

Till next week.
