Miss earth 2013 Samantha Dika in partnership with Gateway Primary School donated some trees to the Isheanesu Children’s Home last week.
Speaking at the donation, Dika said she was happy that young people were working to preserve the environment.“I love nature. I am happy that the young generation is pushing forward the issue of environmental awareness .Trees are life and we should plant more trees,” she said

“Projects such as these are for charity and depend on well-wishers and donations, I encourage anyone who is in position to extend a helping hand for the benefit of our communities and environment to do so. “The need to create sustainable communities is more important than ever. Give a tree, give a life.” Beauty Ncube a teacher at Gateway Primary School encouraged other schools and the public in general to plant more trees and to stop deforestation. “The city has to go green. There is so much deforestation and the climate is changing because of veld fires,” she said. “Let us help grow orchards in children’s homes so that the future generations may enjoy the fruits of our labour.

“I have so many trees that I would like to donate to old people and children’s homes if given the opportunity. The good news is that all my organic trees mature in a space of one year and the society can start enjoying the fruits but a lot of care is needed.”

Dika said it was her duty to do charity work. “I am a role model to many children and I intend to teach them that it is our duty to save the community and I am doing things that will empower them,” she said

Dika has already been on the forefront in assisting needy communities with the 2013 revamping of Chitungwiza-based Happy Organisation Welfare Centre being one of her success stories. Through the beauty queen’s initiatives, the centre was renovated and now it is much refreshing than the sorry sight it was before the redo.

Dika is of the belief that if a man is taught to fish, he is empowered for life.

The beauty queen says she has lined up several campaigns which are aimed at increasing tree planting.
