Zimbabwe will host one of four prestigious universities that are part of an initiative to construct institutions specialising in mining, minerals beneficiation and skills development.
This was said by Mines and Mining Development Minister Walter Chidhakwa in a presentation at the National Defence College Ministerial Forum on Wednesday.

“A university, which is dedicated to minerals extraction and beneficiation, will be constructed over the next three years,” Minister Chidhakwa said.

“It will concentrate on mining and minerals beneficiation. It will be an African university, one of the four science and technology universities that are going to be developed on the African continent.” The construction of the universities is the brainchild of former South African president, the late Nelson Mandela, mooted in the 1990s and was supported by the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

African Heads of State and Government decided that the universities should be located in all the regions of the continent.
