THE Mighty Warriors are expected to troop into camp today at Elangeni Training Centre in Bulawayo as they begin preparations for the Olympic Games scheduled for August in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

They also have an Africa Women Cup of Nations qualifier match against Tanzania in March.

The senior women side became the first football team from this country to qualify for the Olympic Games last year after beating Cameroon 1-0 at Rufaro.

And coach Shadreck Mlauzi has called in 30 players, retaining most of his players that have represented the country in the past, for the camp running from today up to January 28 in Bulawayo.

“It’s the beginning of our medium term plan towards the Olympic Games, so that is our first camp we are going to have in preparation for Rio 2016.

“It’s a pre-season training where we are going to focus on preparing our players physically. At the same time we have in mind a friendly match that has been lined up on January 27, we should play South Africa if all goes according to plan but the camp is definitely on.

For us to compete very well, the approach also needs to be of the highest level despite the lack of resources we might have. But we can compensate that with the human resources,” said Mlauzi.

Mlauzi said they are also targeting the Africa Women Cup of Nations qualification and will take their tie against Tanzania in the first round of the qualifiers scheduled for the weekend of March 4 to March 6 seriously.
