MIGHTY Warriors coach Shadreck Mlauzi has called up a 25-member squad expected to resume training for the Olympic Games tomorrow at Bindura University of Science Education. The squad, which last had a training camp early May, will be hoping to intensify their preparations with just a month left before the Games scheduled for August begin. The football tournament at the Games will kick off on August 3 while the rest of the events run from August 5 to 21.

Zimbabwe are in Group F together with Germany, Canada and Australia. In their first match the Mighty Warriors will take on Germany on August 3.

Their second game is on August 6 against Canada and the last group tie is against Australia on August 9.

Mlauzi, who retained most of the seasoned players such as captain Felistas Muzongondi, goalkeeper Chido Dzingirai, defenders Nobuhle Majika and Patience Mujuru said they will have to utilise the limited time left before the Games start.

“Basically the purpose of this camp is to try and fine-tune our preparations. We don’t have enough time really, so it’s important to make use of the time left to work on all the fundamentals of the game.

“The psychological point of it, the physical side and the tactics for such a tournament. That’s what we are going to focus on.

“At this point in time there is no room to try other players because of the limited time factor,” said Mlauzi.

The Mighty Warriots played against South Africa last month during their two-week camp.

“The game against South Africa served its purpose, but we needed more games of that nurture. Playing against different opposition would have allowed us to assess more players.
