THE Mighty Warriors will round up their preparations for their international friendly matches against Egypt today when they take on a Zifa Select Team at Rufaro this morning. The team leaves tomorrow for Egypt where they will engage the hosts in two friendly matches in Cairo as part of their preparations for the African Women Championships qualifiers which get underway next month.

Zimbabwe have been drawn against Botswana in their first round of the qualifiers with the first leg pencilled for the weekend of 13 to 15 February.

The return leg will be played two weeks later.
If they beat Botswana they will then take on the winner between Botswana and Tanzania in the last qualifying round.
The Championships are scheduled for Namibia in October.

The Mighty Warriors have played the Egyptians before when they were invited for the Arab Cup in 2011 that also featured Tunisia.
They managed to beat Tunisia before drawing with the hosts who were the eventual winners of the tournament.

Coach Rosemary Mugadza said today’s match is their final preparation before they depart for Egypt tomorrow.
“Basically we want to see if the girls have mastered what we have been doing for the past two weeks.

“There is a lot of improvement, especially on the movement and physical fitness. Considering the two games that we played against Gateway and on Sunday we managed to play SR Villa, at least you could tell that the fitness level have improved,” said Mugadza.

Mugadza said they would be announcing the final team today from the 25 players that have been in camp after the match against the Zifa Select Team.

The senior women’s team has been involved in a number of friendly matches since last year to adequately prepare for the qualifiers and on Thursday their technical advisor, Maxwell Takaendesa Jongwe, who was in charge of the team’s training, said he is happy with the progress they have made.

Jongwe said they hope not only to qualify for the African Women Championships but to finish in the top three since the top three sides at the tournament will progress to the World Championships set for next year in Canada.
