Michael Mahendere, the youngest memnber of the gospel group Mahendere Brothers recorded his second live DVD titled “Getting Closer with God Part 2” on Friday at New Life Temple in Eastlea. Under the banner Michael Mahendere and Direct Worship, the musician, who is now a pastor with United Family International Church, (UFIC) said the group’s target is to reach out to new audiences through worship songs.

“ I want to make it clear that I am still part of the group Mahendere Brothers but I am also doing this separate project. My big brother Amos Mahendere has featured on some of the songs.

“My strength is in worship songs than praise songs which are mainly done by Mahendere Brothers so the aim of the group is to bring people close to God through worship,” he said.

Commenting on the issue of competition since there is Zimpraise and recently launched Sebastian Magacha’s African Joy and a number of other choral groups who have done live recordings, Michael said they are not in a contest with anyone.

“We are more of ministers of God’s word rather than performers.

“Our aim is to introduce a worship experience that has an impact on people’s lives.

“The main objective is to change people’s lives through worship,” he said.

He said the live DVD recording is a follow up of “Getting closer with God Part 1” released in 2012 saying on the new project they have remixed some of the songs from the previous DVD.

“We have used some old songs from our previous DVD for instance the song “Soldiers of the Lord”, we have redone the song and it is now sounding good and better. We have also added a new feel to one of our songs on the previous DVD again which is currently doing well on the Power FM charts, “Makanaka Jesu”.

“This time we sang the song in three languages namely Portuguese, Zulu and Venda to cater for our international fans,” he said.
