ZPC KARIBA coach Sunday “Mhofu” Chidzambwa has downplayed his team’s chances of landing the league title, but wants his men to win all their remaining games to finish the race on a high note. The Kariba side are in fourth place with 34 points, nine behind leaders FC Platinum, but can cut that deficit to six if they beat the Zvishavane side in their duel at Nyamhunga on Saturday.Chidzambwa’s men started the campaign well and looked poised to have a big shout in the destiny of the championship, but somehow, lost their way midway into the campaign as they went for eight matches without recording a win.

But the 2014 league runners-up seem to have regained their touch after they recorded wins in their last three matches against Highlanders, Chapungu and Tsholotsho.

Chidzambwa has chosen to play his cards close to his chest and dismissed any suggestions his team could fight for the league title.

“This is a marathon, but I honestly think that being nine points behind the log leaders, with only nine games remaining before the season ends is bad,” said Mhofu.

“The gap will be very difficult to close and the destiny of the title is not in our hands.

“In football, anything can happen, but the way the log leaders and second-placed CAPS United are playing deserves credit.

“Both those teams are favourites though I should say, we have to win all our remaining matches and see where we will be, come the end of the season.”

The veteran gaffer lamented the lengthy dry spell which saw his team going for eight straight league matches without posting a victory.

“Maybe if we had not dropped so many points in those eight matches from Week 11 to the eighteenth match we could have been talking of something better,” said Chidzambwa.

“We shot ourselves in the foot and actually allowed our rivals to assert themselves and now that we are back to winning ways I think it will be difficult to try and play catch-up.”
