Two MDC-T members suspected of assaulting their party’s suspended deputy treasurer-general Mr Elton Mangoma yesterday appeared in court accused again of assaulting another party official Tichaona Munyanyi.
MDC-T organising secretary for Harare, Munyanyi, was assaulted on April 10 this year while seeking to join a meeting at the party headquarters at Harvest House in Harare.
Denford Ngadziore (32) and Francis Machimbidzofa (38) appeared in court last month in connection with Mr Mangoma’s case.

The two are jointly charged with Rhino Mashaya (33) on charges of theft and the assault of Munyanyi.

The trio was granted $100 bail and is expected back in court on May 22.

Harare magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe ordered the trio to report once every week at CID Law and Order, to reside at their given address and not to interfere with witnesses pending finalisation of the matter.

This brings to four the number of suspected Munyanyi’s assailants, with Stewart Shakespear Mukoyi (38) of Glen View 1 in Harare having appeared in court facing the same charges.

Prosecutor Ms Sharon Mashavira alleged that on April 10 this year around 12:30pm Munyanyi went to Harvest House situated at corner Angwa Street and Nelson Mandela Avenue in Harare. The court heard that Munyanyi wanted to attend an MDC-T national council meeting to which he is a member.

Upon arrival, Munyanyi was allegedly denied entry by one of the security personnel, Lovejoy Chitegu Dunga.

However, Munyanyi managed to sneak into the meeting and was spotted by Mukoyi who called Francis Machimbidzofa, Rhino Mashaya, Denford Ngadziore and other MDC-T youths who started assaulting him.

Mukoyi and his accomplices allegedly stole Munyanyi’s Nokia cell phone worth $100 and $200 cash.

Mukoyi was arrested on April 22.
