MDC-T has invited former Presidential Affairs Minister Cde Didymus Mutasa to join the party ahead of the 2018 harmonised elections, a former senior official has revealed.

Former MDC-T national organising secretary Mr Nelson Chamisa yesterday told hundreds of party supporters who gathered at a rally he organised in Kuwadzana that Cde Mutasa would be welcome to join the party as it seeks to form a united front to fight Zanu-PF.

“I told Mutasa to join us and I stressed that he will not get any leadership position,” he said.

“Kana wakambobatwa nedhimhoni hauverengi bhaibheri. I told him not to trust Zanu-PF, look what has happened to him.

“We want to fight Zanu-PF as a united front. (Tendai) Biti (former secretary general of MDC-T) forget about ruling, come and join (Morgan) Tsvangirai, Welshman forget about ruling come and join Tsvangirai, Simba Makoni forget about ruling come and join Tsvangirai.”

After failing to land a Central Committee slot in his home district, Cde Mutasa was effectively ruled out of the Politburo before being relieved of his duties as Minister of State for Presidential Affairs after he was implicated in fanning factionalism and working with a cabal, led by former Vice President Joice Mujuru, that stood accused of working to undermine and depose President Mugabe.

Cde Mutasa was unreachable for comment yesterday.

Mr Chamisa said the problem with faction leaders was that they wanted power at the expense of the nation.

He said the problem the country was facing was that the leaders were focusing more on politics rather than developing the country.

“Most of the time is spent scheming the downfall of others and we forget the national question,” he said.

Mr Chamisa also criticised the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (Debt Assumption) Bill saying those who benefited from farming implements should pay and Government should not burden heavily taxed Zimbabweans who did not benefit.

The Bill passes on the central bank’s $1,35 billion debt to Government.

“We are opposing it, of course we can lose because of numbers, but we fight for the Bill to be rejected. We want to know who benefited. Those people should pay for what they benefited from,” he said.

Mr Chamisa also criticised Government for “dragging its feet” in amending the country’s laws so that they can comply with the country’s new constitution.

He accused Government of not educating the nation on the impact of the digitalisation programme.
