Mbire Rural District Council has so far spent $106 000 it received from Zimbabwe National Roads Authority (Zinara) under the National Road Fund on rehabilitating 27 kilometres of rural roads in the area, a council official has said.

In an interview yesterday, Mbire RDC chief executive Mr Clodiuos Nyahuma Majaya said council was grading and tarring the growth point’s major roads ahead of the 2017-2018 rainy season.

“We have so far graded 25km. We are also opening new roads in the growth point, including 2km Mahuhwe and 3km Mushumbi roads. For Mahuhwe and Mushumbi, we have spent $14 000,” he said.

The exercise comes barely days after Zinara acting chief executive Engineer Moses Juma praised local authorities across the country for effectively spending the $104 million road fund released by Zinara from January to October this year.

“I think in 2017 there has been a great improvement in the utilisation of Zinara resources. This has been witnessed in the output both in urban and rural centres. There are many roads that have been resealed in urban areas while in the rural centres there are a lot of roads that have been graded,” he said.
