MAVAMBO/Kusile/Dawn has dumped its leader Dr Simba Makoni over his claim that the party membership had joined forces with MDC-T to support Mr Morgan Tsvangirai’s presidential candidacy ahead of next Wednesday’s harmonised elections. MKD national mobilisation chairman Lieutenant Colonel Kudzai Mbudzi (Retired) yesterday dismissed the so-called coalition with the MDC-T saying they were instead rallying behind President Mugabe.

Rtd Col Mbudzi and some members of the secretariat in 2009 suspended Dr Makoni over alleged embezzlement of the movement’s funds.
Addressing the media yesterday, Rtd Col Mbudzi said the formation of MKD by former Zanu-PF officials was just a temporary protest against the party but not meant to be a permanent rebellion against the revolutionary party.

“This was the reason why Mavambo then was comprised only of members of the freedom fighters association; vanamukoma, vanamujibha nanachimbwido nevakasungirwa hondo-the former detainees,” said Rtd Col Mbudzi.

Rtd Col Mbudzi urged all members who protested under MKD to rejoin the revolutionary party’s campaign through its ranks, programmes and structures.

“We did not protest so that we can ultimately join Tsvangirai as Simba Makoni and a few misguided others have surprisingly now done.”
Rtd Col Mbudzi said the creation of MKD was never meant to precede the formation of a political party.

He said this was out of clear and full realisation that they were Zanu-PF, full freedom fighters and revolutionaries.
Rtd Colonel Mbudzi’s announcement comes as a major blow to the MDC-T’s “grand alliance’’ in the wake of Zanu Ndonga’s announcement that they had not entered into a coalition with the MDC-T disowning Mr Reketayi Semwayo, who claimed to be the party’s national chairman, as nothing more than the late Reverend Ndabaningi Sithole’s driver.

Analysts, yesterday, said this effectively means the MDC-T entered into a coalition with two individuals.
