Newly-elected secretary for security in the Zanu-PF Women’s national executive, Cde Shuvai Mahofa, has described the First Lady Amai Grace Mugabe’s impending ascension to the helm of the party’s Women’s League as a harbinger of a better future for the revolutionary party.
Addressing Zanu-PF leaders from across the seven districts in Masvingo during a meeting to prepare for Amai Mugabe’s visit to the province on Saturday, Cde Mahofa said there was nothing wrong with the First Lady becoming the party’s Women’s League boss.

She said the development already had a precedent as the late First Lady and national heroine Cde Sally Mugabe had also chaired the Women’s League.
“As women in Masvingo we want to make it clear that we are fully behind the First Lady and support her elevation to become head of the Women’s League.

Some of us have experience of the benefits that will accrue to the party and even the nation with the First Lady at the helm of the Women’s League.
“I still remember how the league used to benefit when it was still led by the late First Lady Amai Sally Mugabe. This is what we want to do again and we feel it is good for the party,’’ she said.

Cde Mahofa said the First Lady would be able to fulfil most of the wishes of women in Zanu-PF by virtue of her position as wife to President Mugabe.
She said some previous Women’s League bosses found it hard to meet the demands and expectations of the position.

“We want Masvingo Province to give a resounding welcome to the First Lady when she comes to the province soon. Masvingo should rally behind the First Lady because she enjoys support across the country.’’

Cde Mahofa also appealed to Zanu-PF leaders in Masvingo to mobilise resources for the province to be able to host the First Lady when she visits.
Several party leaders at the meeting pledged donations, with Masvingo Urban Member of Parliament Cde Daniel Shumba donating five beasts to feed party members during the First Lady’s visit.

Amai Mugabe’s visit to Masvingo will be her first after she was nominated to become the new chair of the Zanu-PF Women’s League at the Congress in December.
The First Lady looks set to be endorsed at the Congress after her nomination to lead the Women’s League received seals of approval from Zanu-PF provinces across the country.
